Hi,this is SHIAr.
I went to the NICONICO CHOKAIGI on April 29th, Golden Week, and here is what I thought about the “number of participant” and 5500yen entrance fee”s.
Overall number of visitors
This year’s NICONICO CHOKAIGI was also coupled with the fact that coronas become category 5, the same as seasonal flu, at the end of GW,
The number of visitors was 1.23 times that of last year (96,000 in 2022, 118,000 in 2023).
However, the pre-Corona 2019 was 168,000.
For those who participated back then, the number has increased a lot, but “it’s still not like this!” they must have thought.
As for the experience of the venue,
Walking is totally normal.
Crowds of people are gathered near the booths.
Popular booths were crowded.
I had the impression that it was perfectly normal.
Crowding in the cosplay area
The cosplay area was spoken to by a participant from back then (prior to 2016),
that it was empty beyond compare.
Before the Corona Disaster, the cosplay area was so crowded that people could not get through, and there were stories of people not being able to take pictures….
Compared to that, this year’s event was probably much less crowded.
Probably what everyone thinks
…I’m going to write what everyone is probably thinking.
I mean that the rising ticket prices were probably the reason why the number of cosplayers decreased.
In 2022, general admission tickets (advance) were 2,300yen and cosplay tickets were 2,000yen,
2023 general admission tickets (advance) 3,500yen, cosplay tickets 2,000yen
By the way, in 2019, general admission (advance purchase) 1,800yen, cosplay registration 1,000yen
(… cosplay registration fee was 500yen until 2016…)
In other words, cosplaying at Nico Ultra will cost you 5,500yen per day!
It’s an amount that makes more people hesitate.
Moreover,
The venue is Makuhari Messe, which is far from Tokyo, and transportation costs are high.
The venue is close to the ocean, so the wind is strong all year round.
The wind often blows so hard that it is difficult to shoot.
When you spend more than 5000yen, you may feel that the studio fee is cheaper…!
After the Corona, the number of general participants is increasing,
I guess the number of cosplayers decreased compared to the pre-Corona period…
An aside.
There is one thing that is a mystery to me.
Unusually for a cosplay event, this event does not require photographers to register to take photos.
I had an image that any event would charge around 1,000yen for registration fee for photographing,
But not at NICONICO CHOKAIGI!
No charge!
Why?
(NICONICO CHOKAIGI is strictly for cosplayers, but the intention is to support photographers…)
(Is it because the photographers want to support them?…)
I thought that NICONICO CHOKAIGI has become an event that is strictly for cosplayers in terms of fees, although of course it is fun because there are many different booths.
Next time, I’ll write about “Girls Frontline” doujinshi marketplace that was held during GW. xoxo
